Thirty three Monarch Chevron Award for service presented among members

On Saturday many gathered at Lions Park to do some much-needed maintenance.  They cleared the brush, spread out mulch, painted the bathrooms, planted flowers for the public to enjoy and so much more.  They ended their time with a group picnic while they celebrated the beauty around them.  It is our hope that the public continues to enjoy this community park as much as we enjoy maintaining it.

Wednesday, we gathered at the Lone Star Convention Center for our weekly club luncheon. Congratulations to the guys for winning our fall membership contest.  While fun was had by all these last couple of weeks the guys managed to pull together at the last minute and take the lead. If you are out in public and see someone wearing a blue shirt that says, “Ask me to ROAR”, I would suggest asking them to tell you what being a Lion means to them.

Our program this week was extra special, 33 members were honored with a Monarch Chevron Award.  These 33 members have a combined 675 years of service.  The Monarch Chevron Awards recognizes Lions for their long-term service, beginning at 10 years and continuing in five-year increments.

Among the honored were Lions Duane Freeman, 40 years of service, Jerry Lunn, 45 years of service, Bob Hataway, Stephen Law and Neil Melms, 50 years of service.  Thank you to all those who were honored with this prestigious award we are proud and thankful to call you Conroe Noon Lions.

Past District Governor and member of the Conroe Noon Lions, Karl Johnson had the honor of inducting 13 new members.  Before he did, he shared an experience that highlighted how the efforts of our club extend far beyond our local area, demonstrating a truly global impact.  He shared that while on a mission trip in Fiji, a young girl needed a special pair of glasses that was nearly impossible to have in stock.  He was able to find a pair that was near her prescription.  She put them on and was able to see better, however, she pointed to a blue pair on a table full of glasses.  The tag was missing so he checked them and to his surprise they were exactly what she needed.  After she left, he came across the tag that belonged to those glasses and found that they were from our very own Conroe Noon Lions Club Eyeglass Recycling Center.  We were reminded it takes each of us to come together to make a difference in the world around us.

If you are looking for a local service club that is making a difference both locally and globally, we would love to extend an invitation to our weekly luncheon this next Wednesday at noon to learn more about what we do and why we do it. It is sure to be another significant meeting as we are excited to announce our Hometown Military Hero.

The Conroe Noon Lions Club meets on Wednesdays, at noon, at the Lone Star Convention Center.  For more information about the Conroe Noon Lions Club, please visit our website, www.conroenoonlions.org, or call the club office at 936-760-1666.
