Conroe Noon Lions: Club members manning the Lions concession stand for hungry fairgoers this week

Christie Sproba/ Conroe Noon Lions

Greetings from the Conroe Noon Lions Club. Before we dive into our club activities, I’d like to take a moment to remember a beloved Lion, Bill Miller. Bill was a member of our Lions Club for 13 years. Whenever there was a service project, Bill was likely to be there. Often, I would see him escorting Lion Virginia to and from the meetings. He always had a smile on his face and a friendly greeting for all.  He recently received the Jack Wiech Fellowship award for his service and dedication to the Texas Lions Camp. His friendship and service will be greatly missed.

We can all honor Bill and see the type of work that he was a part of by participating in our annual Texas Lions Camp - Work Weekend in Kerrville, Texas May 4th and 5th. There’s great camaraderie, plenty of work, and a whole lot of fun. If you haven’t been I encourage you to go. The camp is amazing and you will make some lifelong memories with your fellow Lions.

And speaking of the camp, It’s time to recruit campers! The Texas Lions camp offers summer sessions starting in June for kids with physical disabilities, diabetes, and down syndrome. Several family camps are also offered. Chairman of camp recruitment Lion Sheila Thomas is collecting applications. Visit www.lionscamp.com for more information

And in other Club news, our Community Partners of the week are IES Residential and VFW Post 4709 of Conroe. Your valuable support helps us serve those in our community and beyond.

Attention all Conroe Noon Lions Club members. Our club elections will be held at our weekly Wednesday meeting April 24. Make plans to attend so you can vote for next year’s officers and board members and the coveted Lion and Rookie of the year awards.

A reminder there will be no club meeting this Wednesday April 17 because…

This week is all about the Fair.  Conroe Noon Lions will be all hands-on deck working our annual concession stand at the Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo.  The concession stand opened last Thursday and will continue through this Thursday, April 18th.  Third VP Sharene Carr brought in the troops to our meeting last week to get everyone prepared. Many, many committees are needed to make the concession stand project, a success. EVERY Lion is expected to participate. Chairman of the Manpower Committee, Lion Charlie Irvine and Food Chair, Rob Hamilton were on hand to get us prepared for our shifts. Whether you signed up or were assigned, every Lion has a shift to work. Lion Philip Dupuis also did a great job at last week’s meeting informing and totally confusing us all about parking.

Most of our members look forward to working the concession stand every year. It’s probably the only time you can be forced to serve hot dogs and nachos while having fun and getting to know some great people.

If you’re out at the fair, come see us by the arena for some great grub at an affordable price. You might catch a glimpse of Lion Karl Johnson cooking hamburgers and sporting his newly awarded chef’s hat.
