The holiday season may be over, but the giving continues. The holidays may have compromised blood supplies, and that’s why Lions are here; with our "True Grit" slogan — “doing what must be done.” Committee member Christi Sproba encouraged everyone to join us for our Winter Blood Drive on from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 29.
Donate blood and receive a long sleeve T-shirt and Starbucks gift card to warm your heart.
Our next big event is just around the corner. Mark your calendar for our annual Legends of the Lion- Dinner/Dance & Auction. This year’s theme is "Lions Under the Lone Star" and will be held on Feb. 13 at Lone Star Convention Center with the social beginning at 6 p.m., and dinner at 7 p.m.
Lion Rick Sproba asked everyone to consider donating an auction item and talk to Conroe folks about donating items and buying tickets. It will be a Boot Scootin’ good time.
Lion Bobby Brennan let us know that the next Service Saturday is lined up for Jan. 18. We will be helping with projects at Bridgewood Farms. Contact the Lion office for more details and to sign up.
The Texas Lions Camp is dedicated to special needs children and is free for the kids and their families. Lion Sheila Thomas announced that the next fundraising event to help support the Texas Lions Camp will be Jan. 25 during the District Mid-Winter Conference in Houston.
Vision Screening for our Conroe community will continue this year. Lion Connie Engel let us know that our Club will be conducting screenings with the Community Assistance Center; they are held every other month with the next opportunity for Lions to help will be the 3rd Monday in January.
Our speaker this week was Ann Marie Ronsman, President and CEO of CASA of Montgomery County. Anne Marie brings her medical background as a nurse with a master’s degree in Nursing Education, personal experience as a mom of five children (2 biological and 3 through adoption from China), and 8 years as a CASA volunteer to her leadership role. CASA provides volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children in foster care, and those involved in the juvenile justice system in Montgomery County. Anne Marie was joined by Lion Scharlene Valdez, Judge of County Ct at Law #6 and Lion Wayne Mack, Justice of the Peace Precinct #1 who shared their stories of the difference that CASA is making in the lives of children and families they see in court. All three stressed the need for volunteers to meet continued needs as our county grows. Anyone interested in finding out about volunteering can contact CASA by visiting their website, https://childadvocatestexas.org/ or calling their office at 936-441-5437.
