Conroe Noon Lions: Club members support Montgomery County Fair through auctions, concession stand

Audrey Winkle/ Conroe Noon Lions

Howdy, Conroe Noons Lions Club and Readers!  The 2024 Montgomery Fair and Rodeo was one for the books! A very big thank you to all our club members who stood on their feet for hours, grilled hamburgers, fried chicken strips and poured on the nacho cheese; you were awesome. And another big thank you to all the fair patrons who stopped by the concession stand to support our cause, we appreciate you.

The Lions Club attended the non-livestock and livestock auctions and purchased several items from the hard-working kiddoes! Our Members Fair Buyers Group spent $10,000 at these as well as purchasing items during Sunshine Day. We were able to purchase a few Grands, Reserves, and several other items; from a quilt to rabbits, and table to a steer.  Our joint efforts with other buyers supported many well deserving 4-H and FFA students from all over Montgomery County.

It takes a village to keep this club running. This week’s program was dedicated to voting on the board for the upcoming 2024-25 year. These dedicated Lions will be leading this servant group next year.

New board members will be President: Bryan Rennell; 1st Vice President: Tracy Irvine; 2nd Vice President: Sharene Carr; 3rd Vice President: Jake Freeman; Secretary: Andrew Perry; Assistant Secretary: Hannah Medley; Treasurer: Carl Rushing; Assistant Treasurer: Amanda Anders; Lion Tamer: Bruce Wade; Tail Twister: Warner Phelps; Assistant Tail Twister: Jason Miller; Past President: Jason Miller; Membership Recruiter Director: Morgan Freeman; Membership Retention Director: John Stacy and Membership Services Director: Bobby Brennan.

In addition to the board, the following members will be serving as directors for the 2024-25 year: Jeff Cashner, Connie McNabb, Connie Engle, Rob Hamilton, Judge Wayne Mack, Sheila Thomas, George Waggoner, Royce Janik, Christie Sproba, and Scharlene Valdez.  Congratulations to all that were nominated!

The Rookie of the Year and Lion of the Year honors were also voted on. The winners will be announced on Friday, June 14th at the annual Installation Banquet.  The nominees are: Rookie of the Year: Jason Gilcrease, Royce Janik, Debbie Hooker, and Eric Swanson and Lion of the Year: Connie Engle, Hannah Medley, Morgan Freeman, and Ricky Morton

Get out your calendars because we have some great events coming up in May.
On May 4th and 5th, Conroe Noon volunteers will head to Kerrville for our annual Texas Lions Camp work weekend.  The chairs Jake Freeman and Andrew Perry are organizing the activities for the weekend. If you have ever been to a work weekend you know that Conroe Noon works hard and plays hard while we are in Kerrville.  This is one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities as a Lion you can have and a great way to get to know some of your fellow Lions on a more personal level.

The ‘kids on the lake’ – fishing tournament for special needs children will be held May 11th at Owen Park off of Loop 336 North. This is another one of our treasured events.  Children with special needs from ages 5-18 are invited to come and spend the day at the park fishing and enjoying many outdoor activities.

If you are not a Lion but are looking for an organization that embodies “We Serve,” then visit on Wednesdays, noon, at the Lone Star Convention Center.  For more information about the Conroe Noon Lions Club, please visit our website, www.conroenoonlions.org, or call the local club office at 936-760-1666.
