The Conroe Noon Lions meeting was HOT with excitement even though the weather was COOL.  The big drawing for our 2024 Lucky Derby – Car Raffle was on everyone’s mind, but first we had Lions to recognize, area basketball coaches to speak and our cherished customs and activities.

Three door prizes from Lions Connie Engle, The Players Theater Company/ Jaime Ballard and Ginger Clement ranging from a gourmet barbecue sauce collection to a date-night of theater tickets and even homemade banana nut bread were awarded to the lucky ticket holders.  The generosity of our door prize donors makes every meeting exciting.

Lion Karen Gordy reminded everyone to bring items for the Christmas Baskets going out to our community seniors.  Full size toiletries and personal care items are needed, and we are counting on everyone’s generosity to make these baskets very special this year.

3rd VP Lion Jake Freeman reminded everyone that our Annual Christmas Social will be December 18th from 11:30 to 1:30 at the Lone Star Convention Center.  We all look forward to the “Spiced” and “UnSpiced” eggnog concocted by Lion Ryan Hutson as well as live music, games, food and great fellowship.  Also, he encouraged Lions to sign up for the Jingle Bell Bash on Dec 20th at Reaves Elementary when Santa (Lion Warner) and Lion/Elves delight the kids with a visit and little toys.  Signups are available through the Weekly Lion-Up links and on the members only Facebook page.  Lastly, President Rennell recognized one of our October, Lions of the Month, Diane Hohmann for her great work on Lucky Derby and at Service Saturdays.

ROUNDBALL ROUNDUP featured basketball coaches from area high schools.  As each of the coaches spoke of the challenges and rewards of coaching young athletes in a very competitive game, the common thread was loud and clear.  Every coach is committed to developing the young men on the team, instilling the true values of teamwork, overcoming adversity, and growing boys to become good men and citizens by engaging and committing to the success of the overall team as well as their own accomplishment.  Several of the coaches are new to their positions and their enthusiasm to bring fresh leadership to the school’s program and develop a legacy of excellence is evident.

Finally, President Rennell invited all the coaches to be the “team” to draw the 28 tickets from the 700 sold to compete in the Lucky Derby’s – Winner’s Finale next week.  The Grand Prize will be a shiny new Buckalew Chevrolet Trail Blazer.  Additionally, great prizes such as a Cruise for Two, a San Antonio Riverwalk Getaway, Deluxe Outdoor Firepit and many other prizes all valued at $200.00 or more will be on the line for the lucky finalists.

The next few weeks will be full of excitement and service for Conroe Noon Lions!
