If you’ve already caved on your resolution to lose weight, you might consider volunteering as a means to improve your health.  According to a study by Ghent University, volunteers are as healthy as non-volunteers who are five years younger, and the Conroe Noon Lions Club has opportunities to serve no matter your age, skill set, or interest.

Do you love to fish? Each year Conroe Noon puts on a fishing tournament for children with special needs. Turn your love for days on the lake into an unforgettable experience for a local child. Are you good at working with your hands? The club processes thousands of glasses in the eyeglass recycling center to help those with impaired vision see the world clearly. Are you passionate about working towards a better future for the country? Conroe Noon supports local, exemplary youth with scholarships.

Our motto is “We Serve.” A large chunk of the secret sauce that makes us “the greatest lions club in the world” is the first word of that motto. We. Nothing brings people together quite like working towards the common goal of making our community a better place. The Conroe Noon Lions is a place where you’ll meet your best friends.

Think about making your resolution this year to help others more and at the same time consider making the Conroe Noon Lions Club your home to do just that. For more information about the Conroe Noon Lions Club, please visit our website, www.conroenoonlions.org, or call the local club office at 936-760-1666.  Plus, we have more information on other Lions Club in the area.

Now on to the club news of the week. At our first meeting of the year, the Lions enjoyed a presentation on the new Hyatt Hotel and Conference Center by Roberto Intriago, the General Manager, and Ilde Salazar. The hotel serves as a versatile spot with the ability to host everything from a baby shower or wedding to a tradeshow or board meeting. The hotel is also a great spot for locals to enjoy a date night or day off. Day passes are available for use of the facilities. Several Lions spoke up during the meeting to voice their personal enjoyment of the new hotel. Congrats to Mr. Intriago and Mr. Salazar on their success!

The year might be fresh, but Lions are already out in the community.  On Thursday January 11th, we went out to Reeves Elementary to hand out ice cream treats to students with good attendance and grades.  A fun time was had by all, and Lions enjoyed congratulating the kiddos on all heir hard work.

Next month it’s time for the annual Legend of the Lion – Dinner/Dance & Auction on February 15th. This year’s theme is “Its Lion o’Clock Somewhere”, so start dusting off your tropical attire.  Live Music will be provided by Hanna's Reef 'Texas' Premier Beach Band, and there will be a live and silent auction. We are eagerly taking donations items for both auctions.  Get your tickets now and help Conroe Noon raise money for our many charities, like the Texas Lions Camp!

I’ll end with a big shout out to our Community Partner of the week: Tubular Perforating Manufacturing, LTD. Thank you for supporting our work in the community!
