Catherine Prestigiovanni drives off as the Lucky Derby car raffle winner
Amanda Anders/ Conroe Noon Lions
Greetings to all Lions and readers. With excitement in the air to see who will win our annual Lucky Derby-Car Raffle we have to remind ourselves of a few items before the unveiling of the winner of the new Buckalew Chevrolet. As students get ready for winter break, the Lions are busy preparing their Elf costumes for the Jingle Bell Bash at Reeves Elementary on Friday, December 15th. The Elves in attendance will escort Santa around to bring Christmas cheer & treats to the children. The club recently collected toiletries for their annual Christmas Baskets which they will be sorting and packing on December 19th to be ready for the distribution to the elderly on Wednesday, December the 20th. The LEO Club assisted too, by making Christmas cards for the food baskets during their Christmas Party last week. Our new LEO Club is very active and will be assisting at Sleep in Heavenly Peace and at the Senior Center with their Christmas Bingo. If you have a children ages 12-17 looking to get involved with the community please reach out for information. The Conroe Noon Lions Club will finish out this year with Holiday Cheer at the Christmas Social this week where there will be games, plenty of spiked & unspiked eggnog, plus music by the one and only Tony Mac!
Welcome to the 2023 Lucky Derby Pickle Ball Style! Host Warner Phelps was decked out in his classy gear including his stylish glasses which unfortunately obstructed his view. A special thanks was given before the games began to the Lucky Derby Committee Bryan Rennell, Mike Medved, John Stacy, Rob Hamilton, Ricky Morton, Warner Phelps, and Gail Cain. Conroe’s Mayor Jody Czajkoski assisted in the games by drawing the ping pong balls which had a number for the 28 finalists.
The ping pong balls would continue to be drawn until the Final 4 would remain to play for the Grand Prizes! Once the contestant’s number was drawn they were able to choose either to draw an envelope or steal someone else’s prize. With hostess Gail Cain whispering in his ear, Judge Vince Santini took advantage of the steal for the gun prize, but unfortunately came out with winning Skin Care. Obviously the contestants were cold today as Jessica Steinmann had the prize of the Patio Heater only for it to be stolen a handful of times later. Luckily for Jessica husband Brandon Steinmann was able to snag the prize before the game was over. The final 4 contestants were Catherine, Randy playing for Greg, Ciro, and Grant which had to battle it out pickle ball style!
Each of the final 4 picked a colored paddle when their number was called, along with 3 balls to hit onto a Ping-Pong table which had 4 large pickle ball paddles attached. Each contestant would hit a ball on a paddle and obtain that paddle with their final prize, but don’t worry there could not be any cheating as the prize was inside of the paddle. After a few hits & misses, at the table, floor and finally Velcro paddles. Ciro was the first contestant to reveal he won the Wilke Badass Outdoor Fire pit followed by Randy playing for Greg, who won the trip to Fredericksburg. Last but not least we were down to 2 contestants Grant with the yellow versus Catherine with the blue. Both contestants were asked how lucky they were feeling which Grant was “nervous” and Catherine was feeling “lucky blue.” Grant opened his prize for the new patio set and Catherine Prestigiovanni was the Grand Prize Winner of the new Buckalew Chevrolet! Jason Miller wrapped up the meeting congratulating Catherine on her new vehicle and a big thank you to Buckalew Chevrolet and all others who contributed prizes and bought tickets. We could not put on the Lucky Derby without you!
