Our regular Wednesday lunch meeting on May 28th was all about celebrating leaders and recognizing winners! The pledges and songs were led by members of the High School Leo Club. Two of our great Community Partners, Woodforest National Bank & Woodforest Wealth Strategies, were highlighted as the Community Partners of the Week. Also recognized was Ralph Perez as Lion of the Month for his outstanding volunteer efforts working in the Concession Stand during the Montgomery County Fair.
The program this week centered around the youth in our area. CNLC awarded 11 high school seniors with $22,500 in scholarships, all were introduced and applauded. Congrats to Aaron Hadash, Joshua McLaren, Kai Coley, Isaac Zheng, Chloe Cummins, Lillie Cobb, Cindy Thao, Kallian Makin, Madeline Villa, Kristen Stewart, and Kayley Jackson. Earlier in the year students in junior English classes at Conroe High School competed in the club’s annual Pete Brasher Memorial Speech Contest. So named by a beloved past president of the club who was the club’s Program Chair and known for his wit at the microphone. Committee Chair Lion David Green introduced the three student winners of this year’s contest, who presented their speeches to the membership. For the contest the students must choose one of the 8 Global Causes of Lionism as their topic. The speeches were amazing to hear, and we congratulate Ranudi Subaweerage, Sean Harbison, and Camille Rickwalt on their outstanding job.
Another honor was presented by Lion Rob Hamilton as he introduced the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to Lion Steve Wohlschlaeger; who has been a Lion since 2009, is a past club President, and a dedicated member to the principals of Lionism.
It’s time for summer fun at Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, and Conroe Noon Lions are sponsoring 18 campers with special needs this year! Providing them with backpacks filled with everything they will need to have a great time making memories!
The CNLC Eyeglass Recycling Center will be giving tours on Saturday, June 7th at 9:00 am, to club members. If you haven’t seen the center, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to see the great work that Lions do in providing glasses and vision services for thousands of people every year!
