Life Memberships awarded to exceptional Lion Leaders

Conroe Noon Lions celebrate our community, our opportunities to serve and especially our fellow members whose service and longevity exceed all expectations to really make our club extra special.   Our Jan 29th meeting was all about those special Lions and many of the club’s leaders stepped up to induct a stellar group into the next level of Lion recognition.

As in all meetings, President Rennell called the meeting to order so we could sing “God Bless America” together, pledge allegiance to our Nation’s and State’s flag and introduce guests.  Our committee leaders briefed us on important programs such as a very successful Service Saturday at Bridgewood Farm, an upcoming student recognition at Reaves Elementary and a recent, great fundraiser for Texas Lions Camp at the recent District Bob Dowden Dinner.
2nd Vice President Sharene Carr recently returned from a Mission Trip with Benevolent Missions International to Corozol, Belize where she and the team performed over a hundred eye surgeries and dispensed many hundreds of glasses to the extremely needy and very appreciative locals.  Of special interest, Lion Shelia Thomas was recognized as Lion of the Month for all her great service to the Reaves Elementary Jingle Bell Bash as well as her ongoing work for Texas Lions Camp, and vision screenings.

1St Vice President Tracey Irvine reminded everyone of the impending CNLC Dinner/Dance & Auction on Thursday, February 13th.  Tickets are on sale until the 7th of Feb.  The Western theme is consistent with our motto this year of ‘True Grit’ will be a terrific evening of Honky Tonk music, dancing, games and fund raising to support our many service missions.  She shared that we have some fantastic Live Auction items, but we still need more enticing silent auction items to add to the wonderful experience of the evening.   The club’s weekly meeting on Feb 12th will include set-up, assembly and decorating efforts plus a pizza lunch, so Lions are asked to come spend the afternoon helping to make our event extra memorable.

Past President Donnie Buckalew presented this years’ awardees for Life Memberships to a stellar group of exceptional Lions Leaders.  Judge Lion Kathleen Hamilton, Lion Caroline Hataway, Past President Bill McGraw, Lion Mike Heimer, Past President Ricky Morton and Lion Todd Yancey were all honored and “interviewed” by our own Lion C. Pat Davis.  A few fond memories and laughs were shared so Lions of all membership duration could appreciate the culture these great Lions have built for us at Conroe Noon.

The Lions International Foundation – Melvin Jones Fellow award is bestowed club members who have demonstrated the greatest of Lions values through many years of dedication to service, generosity, and compassion for humanitarian service.  Three exceedingly deserving Conroe Noon Lions were introduced by fellow MJF recipients: Past Present Wes Carr, (Past President Charlie Irvine), Lion Sandy Apostolo (Lion Irene Guajardo), and Lion Tim Cox (Past District Governor Glen Starr).  All these honorees selfless service and years of dedication to our Lion Motto ‘We Serve’ lead the way for all club members to emulate.  Congratulations to one and all!
