'Lions Under the Lonestar' a fundraising success for Conroe Noon

A few things you should know about Conroe Noon Lions Club.  We have a lot of members.  We support many organizations and projects locally and internationally.  And yes, sometimes, OK often, we like to brag on ourselves.

Some service projects require time and effort from our 300+ members, some require funds, and some require both.

Once a year we rally the herd to put on a fun-filled event all in the name of serving others. Our annual Dinner/Dance & Auction requires a lot of effort from many committees. This years’ “Lions under the Lone Star” was no exception. A good time was had by all, and I think everybody appreciated the western wear theme. It made it easy to dress for the night with the guys pulling out their jeans and boots and a lot of ladies in fringe vests.  Some even hung around to dance at the end of a night filled with great entertainment by the ‘Shotgun Road Band.’

As usual, there were plenty of silent auction items to peruse thanks to chair Amanda Anders.  My better half Lion Rich Sproba, and his committee managed to rustle up some fabulous live auction items.  Hog hunts, fishing trips, a fish fry, a beach getaway, a hand-crafted custom cedar bar, and of course, a few fabulous guns were sold to the highest bidder by our always reliable auctioneer Lion, Greg Smith. Who knew hunting hogs was so valuable?  A big thank you to Lion Connie Engle for stepping in to help decorate this high-falutin hoedown.

To pull off a big event like this requires a lot of time, effort, and money.  There are a lot of galas around town, so we appreciate it when the community comes out to support the Conroe Noon Lions. All in the name of giving back.  The highest bidders are often repeat customers, and you can find many of them donating their money and products all over town. A big thank you to, Quality Home Products owner and longtime Lion Bill McGraw. He was on hand with his family and pledged to match the funds raised in our annual bead game.  VP Lion Tracey had her crew working hard selling beads to the crowd to try to maximize Lion Bill’s donation.  The last donor left standing with a strand of beads won a coveted trip to the Frio River.

And to all of our other generous donors, thank you, thank you, thank you! Without you, Conroe Noon would not be able to do what Lions do best - We serve!

Sound like something you want to be a part of? Come check us out any Wednesday at noon at the Lone Star Convention Center. With roughly 40 committees, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
