Lions upcoming dinner, dance fundraiser to have a tropical paradise theme
Connie McNabb/ Conroe Noon Lions
Our final meeting of January 2024 was convened in the Montgomery County Fair Exposition Hall. This temporary change of venue strengthens our group cohesion to come together as a gathering of friends. We were treated to a resounding keyboard performance of our ‘Smile’ song by former CNLC Lion Angela Rivera.
Sheila Thomas, Director of Texas Lions Camp (TLC), happily reported on a resoundingly successful Bob Dowden Dinner fundraiser. Thirty CNLC members attended the District 2S2 event and greatly contributed to the overall $35,000 contribution to TLC. The terrific performance by Morgan Freeman as Master of Ceremonies, Auctioneer C. Pat Davis, and Jake Freeman as “Cupid” made for a delightful and memorable evening for this very worthy cause.
Jake Freeman reminded all in attendance that “It’s Lion O’Clock Somewhere” for everyone to get their reservations in by today, Feb. 5, for our annual Legend of the Lion – Dinner/Dance & Auction on Thursday, Feb 15. All those attending must have a ticket. All Lions are asked to help turn the Convention Center into a “Tropical Paradise”. Set up on Wednesday, Feb 14, will start at 10 a.m. and include a pizza lunch. Volunteers for decorations, take down, silent auction, set up and many other important tasks are needed.
President Jason Miller reminded everyone that the blood drive will be happening on Wednesday, February 28th so all should be on the lookout to sign up to donate blood.
First VP Bryan Rennel and Third VP Shareen Carr presented Mid-Year Awards to recognize our superior performers who go above and beyond to support the Club and our community service projects. Donnie Buckalew was recognized as our Top Salesman for Community Partners. Jake Freeman was Chair for the fabulous Clay Shoot. Aaron Denton was Assistant Chair to the Clay Shoot and Assistant Chair for the Christmas Baskets. Mike Medved chaired our Lucky Derby event. And John Stacy was assistant chair for the Lucky Derby. Carr recognized the Christmas Social team: Susan Johnson, Chair, Jessica Steinmann Assistant Chair, Ryan Hutson, Caroline Hataway, Byron Stewart, and Julie Staat as team members. She also recognized the exceptional work by our Outstanding Youth Contest committee: Rick Camp, Chair, Dana Sullivan Assistant Chair, Byron Stewart, and Michelle Greig as committee members. Congratulations and thanks to ALL for your service to our community.
Mike Sproba introduced James (Jim) Dorsey, Attorney, and partner at Dossey & Jones PLLC. He presented the newly implemented 2024 Corporate Transparency Act and its significant reporting requirements upon most businesses. The program is under the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, Dept of the Treasury with strong cooperative links to the Internal Revenue Service. Deadlines for in-depth and detailed financial reporting are 1 January 2025. Failure of businesses to report in full are major, penalties high and can include felony charges or prison for noncompliance. He strongly urged all business people to learn what they must to do comply and start now to avoid an impossible deadline for late starters.
