Conroe Noon Lions: Buddy Moorehead Pigskin Preview in its 50th year Wednesday
Conroe Noon Lions hit the road to one of our favorite forward deployed locations, the N. Montgomery County Community Center in Willis. Our new leadership team for the meeting 1st VP Andrew Perry and 2nd VP Wayne Mack kept a great tempo for the meeting while our 26-27 President Sharene Carr called in from Texas Lions Camp during Family Camp in Kerrville. She will also be representing Conroe Noon Lions at the camp’s annual Golf Tournament, the Texas Council of Governors’ meeting and their semi-annual board meeting. She encouraged us all to continue to be “Driven to Serve”.
Past President Bobby Brennan reported that our Summer Blood Drive had 30 responding donors with 25 actually cleared to donate. The outcome is that up to 75 people’s lives may be saved by this single event. Everyone needs to be ready for the Winter Blood drive to help even more. Lion Madi Perry helped organize the upcoming Service Saturday at Reaves Elementary to get ready for school opening. But, due to construction limitations, the service day has been pushed back from the 1st to the 15th of August. Members should come out for this special effort to kick off the school year in style for our Reaves Bees. Meanwhile, everyone wrote teachers encouraging notecards to go along with a welcome-back treat for first day of school.
1VP Andrew Perry made a “Royal Presentation” to all to kick off the 20th Anniversary of our Community Partner Program. For twenty years, local businesses have been vital partners to make our service projects in the community a reality. The funding they provide translates directly into our activities throughout the year as Lions provide the labor, organization and time to help a full spectrum of life-changing projects to so many in our area. From vision screenings for kids, scholarships, outreach and care packages to countless elderly and disadvantaged, special days at ‘kids on the lake’ to Texas Lions Camp to honoring our deployed Hometown Military Heros; the Community Partner’s once a year investment translates into thousands of hours of quality service for many. As “King” Andrew proclaimed, our legacy partners of up to 20 years represent “loyalty and trust”. He ‘knighted’ all these long-term supporters and asked them to continue their support; as well as encourage their peers in business to keep this partnership of service going. The drive for Community Partners 2026 is open and concludes on September 1st. Every Lion should invite others around Conroe to make a high-impact difference and build their own legacy of good for the community.
Past President Warner Phelps reminded everyone next week will be the final, Buddy Moorehead - Pigskin Preview, celebrating its 50th year. All “lettermen” or fans of local High School football are invited to celebrate our vibrant and growing Conroe ISD football programs. He then introduced Dr. Carlton Todd, the future Principal of the new Timber Mill High School. Dr. Todd’s ongoing 18-year passion project is a program called “Boyz to Men”. The three founding principles are pride, respect and responsibility. This program focuses on youth who may not have a father figure or mentor to show them the most important values needed for success in life. From learning how to tie a tie to visiting area workplaces to see themselves in potential careers, the program is based on accountability and provides opportunities for youth to see beyond their personal situation to set personal goals for growth and success.
